GBV (Gender-Based Violence) Facilitation Program
At Ukhokhelo Lolutsha, we recognize the importance of addressing and preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) as part of building safe, inclusive, and empowered communities. Our GBV Facilitation Program is dedicated to educating young people about the realities of GBV, promoting healthy relationships, and fostering respect and empathy. Through open conversations, support networks, and resources, we aim to empower youth to become advocates for themselves and others.
Program Goals and Focus Areas
The GBV Facilitation Program creates a supportive environment for understanding, preventing, and addressing gender-based violence. Our approach includes:
- Awareness and Education: We provide clear information about what constitutes GBV, its forms (including physical, emotional, and digital abuse), and its impact on individuals and communities. By educating young people, we aim to break the cycle of silence and stigma.
- Promoting Healthy Relationships: Participants learn about the qualities of healthy relationships, including mutual respect, trust, and effective communication. We discuss how to set boundaries, recognize abusive behavior, and build relationships based on equality and respect.
- Empowerment and Self-Advocacy: We encourage young people to understand their rights, recognize abusive patterns, and feel empowered to speak up if they or someone they know experiences GBV. Through role-playing and confidence-building exercises, we help students develop self-advocacy skills.
- Support and Resources: Our program connects students with trusted resources, such as counselors, helplines, and local support services, so they know where to turn for help if needed. We aim to create a supportive network where individuals feel safe seeking assistance.
- Community Engagement and Advocacy: We promote youth-led initiatives and projects that raise awareness about GBV within their communities. By encouraging young people to be active advocates, we help build a culture of zero tolerance toward gender-based violence.
Our Approach
Our GBV Facilitation Program uses workshops, group discussions, and interactive activities to encourage open dialogue and understanding. Guided by trained facilitators, we create a safe space where participants feel comfortable discussing sensitive topics and learning from one another.
Together, we are committed to building a generation that stands against GBV, champions equality, and fosters a culture of mutual respect. By equipping youth with the knowledge and skills to confront these challenges, we strive to make our communities safer for all.
